Helpie FAQ

  • Can you make new dentures for me, or reline my existing ones?

No, but we do work with some amazing denturists and will be happy to make a referral if needed.

  • How long will I have to wait to get my teeth fixed?

That depends on what you need doing. We always try to see patients as soon as possible, but we ask for your understanding that we are a small office and are trying to take care of multiple patients at once.

  • Can I have work done at my first appointment?

No. At the first appointment we take a full health and dental history, baseline charting and x-rays. We book this in with one of our hygienists and then Dr. Ruchi comes through to take a look and see if any treatment is required. Please note, your cleaning is not done at this appointment so we can tailor all appointments to your specific needs.

  • When can you see me?

There is currently an approximate 4-6 week wait on new patient appointments. We will do our best to see you as soon as possible, but we are a small office with only 7 team members – we only have 1 dentist and 2 hygienists! You can ask to be put on our cancellation list, but we cannot guarantee an earlier appointment. Multiple calls asking to be seen sooner will not result in an earlier appointment.

  • How can I register with your office?

At this time, we ask for you to fill in a form with your information and we will call you with an appointment. We have been inundated with calls and as a small office, we are doing our best to get to everyone as quickly as possible, but please be aware there may be a delay in getting back to you.

This form is available in office, on our website: greatnorthdental.com or we can mail it to you. If you require it to be mailed, we will include a stamped return envelope so you can send it back to us with minimal hassle.

  • What happens if I don’t pay?

Failure to pay the co-pay may result in the amount owing being sent to collections, and no further appointments could be scheduled with our office. Please note, in order to register with our office, you will be required to sign a notice indicating you have read and understand this information.

  • Can you tell me how much I will have to pay?

We will do our best to send pre-determinations to check coverage ahead of time, but this may not be possible and any and all co-pays will be due at time of treatment. Should you choose to go ahead with treatment without a pre-determination (for example; you have broken a tooth and don’t want to wait as it is causing pain) if coverage is denied by SunLife, you will be responsible for the full cost of treatment.

  • Will I have to pay anything out of pocket?

Yes. While it may state that you have 100% coverage – when you visit the Government of Canada’s website, it explains that this 100% coverage is only of the CDCP fees. There is a difference between CDCP fees and the Ontario Dental Association Fee Guide that we follow, and this difference must be covered by the patient.

We have been informed that the government is working to bridge this gap, but at this time, in order to be seen at our office, you must pay the difference. If they make changes and cover this difference, we will not be able to issue a refund – you may be able to claim it from SunLife, but we do not yet know if, or when, this will be the case.

  • What is covered by the CDCP plan?

The CDCP does not cover all dental services, and may not cover the treatment you need. As per the Government of Canada:

Examples of services that could be covered under the CDCP when recommended by an oral health provider, include:

    • preventive services, including scaling (cleaning), sealants and fluoride
    • diagnostic services, including examinations and x-rays
    • restorative services, including fillings
    • endodontic services, including root canal treatments
    • prosthodontic services, including:
      • complete dentures, and
      • partial removable dentures
    • periodontal services, including deep scaling
    • oral surgery services, including extractions

How often these procedures will be covered can be found at the website linked here https://www.canada.ca/en/services/benefits/dental/dental-care-plan/guide.html#h2.5-h3.1

  • Am I eligible for the new CDCP plan?

We do not handle registration or eligibility for the CDCP plan. Please contact the CDCP hotline on 1-833-537-4342 (TTY: 1-833-677-6262) or visit a Service Canada office.
